The Intel® Reader is a mobile handheld device designed to increase independence for people who have learning disabilities such as dyslexia, or have low vision or blindness, or anyone who struggles with reading standard print. Its unique design combines a high-resolution camera with the power of an Intel Atom™ processor to convert printed text to digital text, and then reads it aloud to the user.
When the Intel Reader is used together with the Intel® Portable Capture Station, large amounts of text—such as a chapter or a book—can be easily captured for reading later. With the Intel Reader, users have convenient and flexible access to a variety of printed materials, helping to increase their freedom, enjoyment and confidence in their daily lives, and to improve their productivity and efficiency at school and work.
With the Intel Reader:
- Point, shoot and listen to printed text virtually anytime, anywhere
- Conveniently capture large amounts of information and listen to it when convenient
- Play a variety of content, including MP3 files, DAISY books and text transferred from a PC or Mac.
- Easily fit it into a purse or backpack. It is lightweight enough to be used conveniently by an elderly person or a child.
- Listen to text privately, clearly, and discreetly, without disturbing others.
By using the Intel Portable Capture Station, teachers and students can shoot and store large amounts of text, such as worksheets or entire textbook chapters right in the classroom. It then becomes easier for students to bring work home.
